Job Summary: A Goldsmith is responsible for crafting, repairing, and modifying gold and other precious metal jewelry. This role involves using various tools and techniques to create high-quality pieces with precision, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The goldsmith may also handle gemstone setting, engraving, and polishing to enhance the final product.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, craft, and fabricate gold jewelry, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other ornaments.
- Repair and restore damaged jewelry by resizing, soldering, and replacing missing parts.
- Work with different precious metals and alloys to achieve desired quality and appearance.
- Set gemstones securely using prong, bezel, pave, and other settings.
- Polish, engrave, and finish jewelry to enhance its appearance.
- Use both traditional handcrafting methods and modern tools like laser welding and CAD/CAM software.
- Assess and test the purity and authenticity of gold and other precious metals.
- Collaborate with designers, jewelers, and clients to create custom jewelry pieces.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to safety protocols.
Requirements & Skills:
- Proven experience as a goldsmith or in jewelry manufacturing.
- Expertise in metalworking techniques, including casting, forging, soldering, and engraving.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Familiarity with gemstone handling and setting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret jewelry designs and blueprints.
- Experience using hand tools, torches, polishing machines, and laser welders.
- Creativity and artistic skills for unique jewelry designs.
- Strong problem-solving skills for effective jewelry repair and modification.
Experience:
- At least 10 years of experience in goldsmithing.
